Working with a web design firm in the areas of search engine optimization for improving web site placement on search sites such as Google and Yahoo. Involved in the startup of a company, WizardsWare,LLC, which is developing on-line educational applications. The first of these applications is WizardsSpell a web-based spelling tool which helps children improve their spelling skills. Also involved in international ICT initiatives in developing countries in Africa, the Middle East and Cental Asia.

Independent Consultant 2002-2004 Sterling, Virginia. Served as IT Consultant to the bankruptcy trustee for the PSINet bankruptcy liquidation. Provided litigation support to law firms pursuing asset recoveries, bankruptcy claim analysis and disposition, asset valuation and disposal, application support, data analysis and reporting.

Directed an Information Systems organization responsible for all back office business systems, corporate LAN/WAN, voice communications, internal help desk, and operational infrastructure for a global Internet service provider. Established and managed an expense budget of $14 million and a staff of 45.
  • Directed the implementation of Kana Silknet, Oracle Financials, Remedy and upgrade of Portal Infranet as well as development of and enhancements to internally developed applications.
  • Planned and managed the IT move and consolidation of five PSInet facilities to a new world headquarters.
  • Provided systems support for the downsizing of the PSINet network due to the company's downturn and subsequent Chapter 11 filing.
  • Served as acting-CIO.
ALCATEL USA

Ashburn, Virginia. Managed a global Information Systems organization in implementing systems that supported Alcatel Data Networks in business systems, engineering systems, desktops, and voice and data communications. Managed a budget of $3.5 million and a staff of 21.
  • Implemented an Oracle enterprise resource planning system, including financials, order entry, and manufacturing.
  • Directed the development of an extranet website that allowed external customers to obtain order status, product information, and software downloads reducing costs and improving customer satisfaction.
  • Successfully planned and executed the move of the Alcatel organization (450 staff and 850 PC's and workstations) to a new facility over one week end keeping down time to a minimum.
SPRINT INTERNATIONAL
Director, Development Support
1986-1993
Reston, Virginia. Directed operations responsible for resolving product problems and developing user documentation. Responsible for the implementation and support of product development infrastructure as well as the quality management function.
  • Led the planning and migration of a 230-person development organization from dumb terminals and minicomputers to Sun workstations and servers on local area networks. This provided the platform and tools for the development of a new generation of frame-relay switching products for use in the Sprint public frame-relay network and for sale to private network customers.
  • Directed product documentation group and spearheaded the conversion to "paperless" documentation using on-line help, CDROM and finally web-based delivery. This reduced production costs by 99% per documentation set and substantially reduced the price to the customer as well.
GTE TELENET

Reston, Virginia. Created a product support organization responsible for technical support of all hardware and software, system test and development of user documentation.
  • Established a process for system testing network products resulting in an improvement in product stability and functionality, and an improved rate of customer network acceptance.
  • Implemented a product packaging strategy for releasing hardware, software, and documentation, which eliminated confusion as to what versions worked together and reduced the time to resolve customer problems.
Director, Private Network Operations Directed project management, planning, installation and support of private X.25 data networks for corporations, domestic and foreign telecommunications carriers.
 
Implemented networks for customers including Hughes Aircraft, Manufacturer's Hanover Trust, GTE Telephone Operations, Bell South and British Telecom proving that there was a lucrative market for our technology and leading to the sale of over 300 networks globally.
TELENET COMMUNICATIONS CORPORATION

Washington, DC. Promoted to lead a team to implement private data networks using technology developed for the Telenet public data network.
 
Project managed the implementation of the first X.25 gateway for British Telecom. This was Telenet's first private network sale and led to the eventual sale of a national X.25 network to British Telecom for the United Kingdom.
Manager, Network Management Systems Key member of the Telenet startup team responsible for development and implementation of the Telenet public data network, the first US X.25 public data network.
 
Developed the network management system for the initial Telenet public data network that provided remote management of the network including status alarms and control, software downloading, traffic accounting and statistics.
